Best High Yield Stocks 2013-2023

"Only buy something that you'd be perfectly happy to hold if the market shut down for 10 years."
— Warren Buffett
In the context of high yield stocks, the above quote from Warren Buffett got us thinking: what if you had invested into prominent stocks a decade ago, and simply held on (and reinvested dividends) through all the market's bull periods and bear periods?

In order to track down "top" high yield dividend stocks, we pored over the components of the prominent S&P 500 index, because any company in this index would certainly be considered among the "top" businesses out there in the stock market. Next, we screened for high yield, using a minimum 4% current dividend yield threshold.

For all of the stocks passing this screen, we next computed the 10-year total return with dividends reinvested, finding out what level of return an investor would have enjoyed if they had invested into shares of the stock a decade ago and then proceeded to pretend that the market was literally shut down for the subsequent ten year period — i.e. even though the market was in fact open, one could simply pretend it was closed in the spirit of the earlier Warren Buffett quote, and ignore the daily ups and downs: Just hold on, and reinvest dividends.
